COURSE LIST AND DESCRIPTION FOR LICENSED MASSAGE THERAPISTS

Mandatory Courses

PREVENTION OF MEDICAL ERRORS (Mandatory 2 hour requirement - $18.00)
All licensed Florida healthcare practitioners must take a two-hour continuing education course in Prevention of Medical Errors. The Board of Massage Therapy rule requires that all licensed massage therapists take this course each biennium and prior to Initial Licensure.

HIV/AIDS UPDATE (Mandatory 1 hour minimum course for license renewal - $10.00)
All licensed massage therapists must take at least one hour of continuing education in HIV/AIDS each biennium. This course is an update of the latest statistics, research, treatments and trends, both world-wide and for Florida.

FLORIDA LAWS AND RULES OF THE PRACTICE OF MASSAGE THERAPY (Mandatory 2 hour requirement - $18.00)
All licensed massage therapists must take a two hour continuing education course on Florida Laws and Rules of the Practice of Massage Therapy. Our course includes a copy of state Statutes and Board rules on massage therapy regulation.

PROFESSIONAL ETHICS FOR MASSAGE THERAPISTS (Mandatory 2 hour requirement - $18.00)
All licensed massage therapists must take a two hour continuing education course on Professional Ethics each biennium.

Elective Courses

HIV/AIDS BASICS (Applicants for licensure 3 hour course - $21.00)
This course is designed for persons who are applying for initial licensure and fulfills the 3 hour requirement. This course can be taken by licensees who want or need more credits as part of the 24 hours of CE needed for licensure renewal. This course traces the history of the HIV virus and world-wide AIDS epidemic, and looks in depth at attempts to curtail the epidemic, and includes the latest information on research, treatments, and trends.

NEW course! HEALTH INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY (HIT) FOR HEALTH CARE PROFESSIONALS
(Elective 2-hour course - $20.00)
A 2-hour elective course that covers the basics of the rapidly growing field of Health Information Technology (HIT). Includes the new federal laws (HITECH ARRA) that require health care professionals, hospitals and health care facilities to begin the adoption of electronic medical records (EHRs) starting in 2011. Covers meaningful use, privacy provisions, certification and electronic exchange of EHR systems. Annotated Bibliography and HIT Glossary are included.

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE BASICS FOR HEALTH CARE PROFESSIONALS (Elective 2 hours - $18.00) A 2 hour elective course that includes the historical and legal background on domestic violence, Florida law, current research on the dynamics of domestic violence, and the role of health care professionals in the recognition and treatment of domestic violence. Required by many health care facilities and offices.

SEXUAL MISCONDUCT, DISCRIMINATION AND HARASSMENT (Elective course - $18.00) A 2 hour elective course which covers sexual misconduct in the work place by any health care professionals, and the disciplinary and other penalties for engaging in sexual misconduct. Also covers the federal laws on sexual discrimination and sexual harassment in the work place.
